⭐ Find your next killer feature in G2 reviews
Learn how to turn G2 reviews into actionable insights for building integrations, solving pain points, and uncovering untapped opportunities.
Hey friends! 🌟
If you’re building for platforms—whether you’re SaaS scaling integrations or a founder exploring your next idea—G2 is an incredible resource.
Each review is full of real-world pain points, use cases, and opportunities. It’s a key part of my research process. Here’s how I mine it for insights:
Step 1: Select Reviews
For exploratory research, I start with 10-15 recent reviews from a range of ratings. The most actionable insights often come from 3-4 star reviews. If I’m looking for something specific, I use G2’s search filters to focus on a particular audience (e.g., non-profits) or feature (e.g., holiday planning).
Step 2: Organize insights
Next, I tag insights from each review.
Use cases: What users are trying to achieve.
Friction points: Where users struggle.
Personas: G2 often links reviewers to LinkedIn profiles, allowing you to connect specific roles to their use cases and challenges.
Step 3: Identify themes
After reviewing about 10 posts, recurring themes start to emerge. These patterns help identify areas worth deeper exploration.
Step 4: Dig Deeper
G2 is just the starting point. After gathering insights, you’ll have clear personas, use cases, and friction points. Use these to refine your questions and continue your research through forums, interviews, or other channels like Reddit.
